What does originality mean to you?
It’s hard to hear that question and not hear “individuality.” I don’t believe anything’s original. I think there is authenticity, I think there’s integrity—but “original” feels too absolute for me.

Today, your work is in the Guggenheim’s permanent collection, your first monograph, Higher, was a critical success, and last year, you broke into the commercial realm. This fall, the Brooklyn Museum of Art will host a solo show of your work, “A Sidelong Glance,” in honor of the UOVO prize, which you won. What has 2020 been like for you?
In the beginning of 2020, I did my first trip to the continent of Africa, to Ghana, and the year began with a spiritual bath. From that moment on, this year has felt like a process of shedding and shedding and shedding, and again being born anew.

My two siblings and I all had experience with singing and rapping, but something about it just kept me going". CareerYP is an acronym for "Yung Papi". In 2016, he launched his music career as a rapper on SoundCloud as Psycho, while based in Manchester, England, and went on to release his EP "Lost In The Sauce" on 26 August 2016. In the following year, YP and Kuddi is Dead released a collaborative 4-track EP "This Is What You Wanted" on 21 May 2017, and released a SoundCloud exclusive with "This Is Wha And now with his first UK tour, he was connecting the dots, reaching to market who willingly embrace all types of music from the African continent. A sold-out The Garage in Highbury, North London was to be the stage for the evening, the final stop on his three leg tour of the UK as he promotes his new album rare. As DJ Femo, Vivendi Sounds and co transitioned between acts with their creatively ambitious skills and a casual throwback or two, it was definitely warmly welcomed by the crowd. Odunsi had a rolodex of opening acts at his disposal, with each act given their little 15 minutes in the spotlight. Literally. I don’t think any opener had more than 10 minutes to perform. Nonetheless, the artists varied in terms of genre; we went from Trap to Hip-Hop to R&B-Soul. Notable mentions to $B, SV, Somadina and Tomi Agape who graced the stage; some brought their A-game more than others to be honest. Now onto the main event. We knew we were in for a treat when R&B/Soul songstress Hamzaa came out to the stage. Completely unexpected.
