DR - Thanks, It's been a few years and it's good to be back. The first reunion we did was 2000 in Charlottetown, a big New Years type of thing. We decided we would re-group for that and we enjoyed it so much that we went to Winnipeg later that summer and did a gig and we have been doing a few festivals here and there.
GB - Any plans some day on maybe recording a live CD/DVD or perhaps a new studio recording?
DR - Funny you mentioned that as we have talked about that quite a few times. Everybody's pretty busy with their work and business's and family commitments but we have talked about it. I'm not ruling out their won't be another Haywire CD.
GB- What are you doing now yourself Dave?
DR- I moved back to Charlottetown a couple of years ago. I was in Ontario for twelve years. I just moved back to P.E.I. with my family to raise our kids there.
GB - Since is quite rare for you guys to play live do you ever fear you will forget some of the keyboard parts to the songs?
DR - I forget all the keyboard parts actually. I'm playing kazoo for the show tonight (laughs). No it's kind of riding a bike, back when we were playing and touring the albums and stuff, we played so many nights and the songs over and over ever night. After you go thought them once or twice it all comes back to you.
GB - Looking back to the 80's any special memories?
There have been 2 bands known as Haywire. Canadian band Haywire is a Canadianrock band, originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Haywire was formed in Charlottetown in 1981 by Paul MacAusland (vocals), Marvin Birt (guitar/vocals), David Rashed (keys/vocals), Ronnie Switzer (bass/vocals) and Scott Roberts (drums). Ron "Bumble" LeBlanc replaced Roberts in 1984, playing with the band through their demo, EP, and three cuts on their debut Attic release before leaving to continue his education. Mac Cole filled the drum seat briefly until Sean Kilbride (a long-time friend of the band) rounded out the line-up. In 1984, they won the "Q104 Homegrown" (Volume 1) contest; the first prize was the chance to record a single, but the band took the opportunity to invest additional money of their own and record a five-song EP, Haywire (1985), which eventually sold over 5,000 copies in the Maritimes. In 1985, they won the Labatt's "Battle of the Bands" competition, and used the $10,000 first prize to record more material. In 1986, the group signed a recording contract with Canadian independent label Attic Records. Their first album, Bad Boys (1986), went platinum in Canada, while the title track became a Top 40 hit. The following year, they released Don't Just Stand There (1987), which also went platinum, and contained their highest charting hit, the hard-driving, "Dance Desire". A promised third video was not forthcoming from the label, so Haywire financed the video for "Fire" themselves. Throughout the late 1980s, Haywire toured with other popular Canadian rockers such as Helix, Honeymoon Suite and Kim Mitchell. They also represented Canada in the World Popular Song Festival in Japan, where "Dance Desire" won the award for best song. DR- The one thing that was brought to my attention was that the show that was played a few years back when we were in the Battle of the Bands here in Saint John. I remember being outside doing that. That was a pretty exciting time doing all the gigs for that and finally wining the main prize. That was kind of nice. It was a real confidence boost for the band. Haywire broke up in the mid-90's thanks, in part, to lackluster support at the executive level of Attic Records.
With the novelty of acts from the 80's, Haywire has come back together, playing smaller venues. And in November of 2006, Haywire received the Music Prince Edward Island Lifetime Achievement Award.

The second Haywire was formed in 2001 in the East of The Netherlands in a place called Coevorden. In their existance, the band underwent several changes in line-up. However, Erik Berends (drums), Anton Oortmann (bass) and Jeroen Grendelman (Guitar, vocals) were the backbone of the band pretty much from begin to end. In 2005, after a change in line-up, the Haywire-era took a definite start. The young band wrote, after a time of having stood still, serious and sharp rocksongs. Influences from Placebo, Muse and The Cure are clearly interpreted and not copied. The typical vocals, the shrill guitars and the penetrating bass-sound are the main characteristics of the band. Haywire likes to describe their songs as dramatised rock with dark edges.
At the end of 2006 Guitar-player Maarten Righarts was replaced by Marc Hoenderboom, who also happened to own a Korg MS20. With Marc and his Korg the overall sound of the band changed so dramatically that the band decided to change it's name to Pioneers of Love in the summer of 2007. So basically, from that point on Haywire hasn't existed any Haywire (band)
