New MusicLaws of Solitude (Strauss: Four Last Songs)
Asmik releases her third album with Alpha: Laws of Solitude.
Asmik has recorded both versions of Richard Strauss's ultimate masterpiece, Four Last Songs: the version with orchestra and the more rarely performed version with piano. For her, this work is associated with the idea of solitude, but not an unhappy solitude, rather a journey towards infinity. Out now.

Ms. Grigorian has been honored as Opera Singer of the Year by Opernwelt Magazine. After a string of successes in her last season, Opernwelt commented, “She was Salome in Hamburg, Turandot in Vienna, Lisa in Munich. And there could be no doubt that Asmik Grigorian would again be named “Singer of the Year” for the portrayal of these roles.” This is the second time that Grigorian has received this honour, having received it in 2018/19 as well.
Asmik commented, “I am very grateful for this award and for the beautiful words and the respect of Opernwelt. It is a great honour to receive this distinction for the second time. Thank you very much!”

“One of the fiercest dramatic talents in the field” (The New York Times), Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian’s “versatility is astounding” (The Times) with a “wild voice [that is] rich and dark” (Le Monde). Regularly engaged at the world’s leading opera houses, she has recently performed at the Wiener Staatsoper, The Metropolitan Opera, the Salzburger Festspiele, and Teatro alla Scala. She was a founding member of Vilnius City Opera, has twice been awarded the Golden Stage Cross (the highest award for singers in Lithuania), was named Best Female Lead in 2019 at the Austrian Music Theater Awards, Female Opera Singer of the Year in 2022 by the Ópera XXI Association, and Female Singer of the Year at the Opus Klassik Awards in 2023. In 2024, she received the prestigious Österreichischer Musiktheaterpreis in the “Special Jury Prize” category, an award celebrating exceptional contributions to Austria’s opera and theater scene, and was named Opernwelt’s Opera Singer of the Year.
Her 2024/25 season begins with a performance at the Festival Master of Classic in Bucharest, Romania, alongside baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky, followed by her role debut as Elisabetta in Don Carlo at the Wiener Staatsoper. Asmik then returns to one of her signature title roles, Rusalka, three times this season. The first marks her debut at the Teatro San Carlo in a new production by Dmitri Tcherniakov in the fall, then at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in the summer, as well as the Bayerische Staatsoper, where she also performs Senta in Der Fliegende Hollander in March 2025. This season also includes her debut as the title-role in Bellini’s Norma in a new production at the Theater an der Wien. Ms. Grigorian makes her house debut at Opéra national de Paris, where she reprises all three soprano roles in Puccini’s Il Trittico. In the summer, she reprises the role of Salome in a concert performance with the London Sympho

The program “A Diva is Born” includes 23 works from very different genres, but they are all united and connected into an exciting whole by the exceptional musical talent of Asmik. Her powerful stage energy is perfectly combined with Hyung-ki Joo’s amazing ability to make the instrument speak. The British pianist of Korean origin has accompanied more than one stage diva. His list includes: Serana Gamberoni, Dame Felicity Lott, Christiane Oelze, Valentina Nafornita, Nadine Sierra and many other famous names. However, such an exceptional diva as Asmik has never been encountered on his path. “I am really impressed and even quite excited,” says H. Joo about the joint program with A. Grigorian.
Asmik is unique even in the world of divas. She is coveted by La Scala, the New York Metropolitan and London Royal Operas, the famous Verona Arena and the Bavarian State Opera, which is especially appreciated by connoisseurs. Her Turandot, Madama Butterfly, Salome and Carmen are considered some of the most striking and dramatic incarnations of opera of all time. Critics, which does not happen so often, unanimously agree with the audience on this issue and in unison pour out elaborate praise.
However… Having prepared for the most famous theaters, the singer, as if she were not a world-class star, goes to the airport by metro, packs her suitcases herself and carries them without help. Perhaps the only thing that would distinguish her from others in the metro car would be her stylish outfit and a look that seems to indicate that the passenger has a magical power that makes thousands experience Salome’s tragedy as their own.
