Jeremy Skaller

FOUNDER

As an award-winning songwriter/producer, lifelong entrepreneur, film producer, song publisher, and investor, Jeremy Skaller has built an impressive legacy in the music and entertainment industries. As co-founder of The Heavy Group, he has worked with a roster of multi-platinum, record-breaking superstars, embodying the company’s mantra of “Creators for Creators.” With an exceptional understanding of the creative process, Jeremy empowers clients to thrive at the highest level.

In his early career, Jeremy co-founded Orange Factory Music, where he played a pivotal role in launching UK sensation Jay Sean to global stardom. After securing a deal with Cash Money Records/Universal, Jeremy and his team made history with Jay Sean’s 2009 hit "Down," which became the first song by a South Asian artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 and will cross the rare Diamond sales certification (10 million) in the U.S. by early 2025. The track was followed by other chart-topping hits, including the 3x-platinum "Do You Remember" [feat. Sean Paul & Lil Jon] and the platinum "2012 (It Ain’t The End)" [feat. Nicki Minaj].

Jeremy’s musical achievements have earned him over 100 million singles sold (20+ Billion accumulated streams), ten #1 Billboard Dance Chart singles, and five consecutive Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 hits. Most recently, he published Rihanna's "Needed Me," which has reached Diamond status (2024).

In 2016, Jeremy co-founded The Heavy Group with longtime creative collaborator Jared Cotter. The company spans a record label, publishing, management, charitable initiatives, and film/TV production. Under The Heavy Group’s umbrella, Jeremy has helped guide the careers of artists such as Bazzi, Kiana Ledé, and producer, Sean Cook, who produced and Executive Produced 2024 super-break-out-star, Shaboozey—who made history as the first Black country artist to hit #1 on the charts, redefining the genre and breaking cultural boundaries. Virgin Music Group, the world’s leading partner to independent artists, labels and entrepreneurs, announced today that they have partnered with 3AM Entertainment, the label founded by British-born international superstar and cultural icon Jay Sean, who took the US pop culture market by storm in the mid-2000s, producer/executive Jeremy Skaller and Manager/VP of Music at Range Media Partners, Jared Cotter. 3AM Entertainment will focus on artists from the South Asian diaspora, regardless of genre.

The first project to debut under the new deal is a new single, “Heartless,” from Jay Sean featuring Toronto-based Punjabi hitmaker Ikky, slated for April 5, 2024, with an album project to follow.

“When I started my career 20 years ago, there was almost no representation of South Asians outside of their home region,” said label co-founder Jay Sean. “Today’s music business is truly global, and 3AM Entertainment will focus on supporting artists from the South Asian diaspora on their journey to becoming global stars. It is my goal and dream to see our culture be appreciated on mainstream platforms and resonate with global audiences in the same way that Latin music, K-pop and Afrobeat have found audiences outside their native culture. Virgin Music Group, with its powerful global footprint and team of experts around the world, is a perfect partner to join us on this mission.”

“No single artist has done more to bring South Asian music and culture to a global audience than Jay Sean,” said Nat Pastor, Co-CEO of Virgin Music Group. “Jeremy and Jared have been with Jay on that journey, and together the three executives have a strong track record in supporting and nurturing South Asian artists in their native countries and beyond. Through our partnership with 3AM Entertainment, we are creating a platform to increase our presence in this fast-growth market to support and expand the reach of South Asian music.”

Orange Factory Music (also known as OFM) is an American production team formed in 1999 by record producers and songwriters Jeremy "JRemy" Skaller and Robert "Bobby Bass" Larow. OFM also has one writer signed under its corporate umbrella; Jonathan 'Perky Rain' Perkins. Most noted for their discovery and development of Jay Sean, the duo met at the University of Vermont, before moving to New York to pursue their musical career. Skaller and Larow, professionally known as "J Remy" and "Bobby Bass" also continued to produce, write, and remix songs for Fabolous, Monrose, Eva Avila, Ricki-Lee and Jay Sean.

The duo first charted with the No. 1 Billboard Dance song "Don't Want Another Man" by Tina Ann. In the next few years OFM consistently charted on the Billboard charts with production, remixer, and writers credits with Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, Seal, Usher, Blue Cantrell, Backstreet Boys, Birdman, Alanis Morissette, Janet Jackson, Annie Lennox, Dolce, Tina Ann, Fabolous, Bone Crusher, Shakira, and Jessica Simpson.

In September 2013, OFM writer/composer Jonathan Perkins expanded the company's operations to Nashville in a joint publishing venture with OFM Publishing and Reach Music Publishing. In 2015, Skaller signed singer/actor Kiana Ledé. Since then she has signed a recording deal with Republic Records and a publishing deal with SonyATV.

Like many in the business, producer-songwriter Jeremy Skaller got his start as a musician. A keyboardist and descendant of 19th-century Hungarian composer Franz Liszt, Skaller evolved effortlessly into a songwriter. He’s a co-founder of Orange Factory Music (OFM), the production team that brought Cash Money Records’ artist Jay Sean to the forefront. OFM has also produced, remixed and/or written for pop artists including Britney Spears and Janet Jackson. Most recently, Skaller produced Sean’s forthcoming Neon and three songs on Big Time Rush’s 24/Seven.

Despite Sean’s popularity and exposure in 2007—10 million YouTube views and more than 150 thousand independent record sales—Skaller had trouble generating label interest in the English artist from the Asian Underground scene. “I shopped Jay to all of the majors,” he recalls. “Every top A&R guy passed. I felt there was a belief that it was impossible for an Indian kid to be successful in America. I knew Slim [Williams] of Cash Money, which wasn’t then what it is now. This was pre-Drake, pre-Nicki Minaj. Within 20 seconds of sending him Jay’s video, he called and said ‘I want you to fly to Miami.’” In 2009, Sean’s single “Down” featuring Lil Wayne reached No. 1.

As a producer who is comfortable jumping genres, Skaller finds that artists and A&R reps can sometimes hold preconceived ideas about what he’ll bring to a project. “People perceive you  one way and you deliver music that sounds another,” he observes. “I’ve run into my fair share of writing tracks for rappers and people raising their eyes when they hear it. They can’t believe that I produced it. And there was a time that I’d just completed a dance record but wanted to play a ballad for an A&R guy. All he wanted was another banger. All producers face that challenge.”

Skaller views having fun as a crucial element of a successful song. “You can feel the fun and the joy that was put into making it,” he observes. “That’s the fairy dust. The form
