Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), formerly Nagpur University, is a publicstate university located in Nagpur, Maharashtra. It is one of India's oldest universities, as well as the second-oldest in Maharashtra. It is named after Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj, a spiritual leader, orator, and musician from Vidarbha. The university is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The university is composed of the Faculties of Arts & Humanities, Science, Social Sciences, Home Science, Medicine, Commerce, Education, Engineering & Technology, Law, and Ayurveda, consisting of 39 Postgraduate teaching departments (PGTD) and two constituent colleges (the Law College and the College of Education). Gramgeeta: an epic on Indian village life is a book of poetry authored by Rashtra Saint Tukdoji Maharaj. This book is an ideal reference for developing village community.

The book has the following significant conclusions in it:

1. God cannot be found in Temples, Churches and Mosques as he is everywhere.

2. The best devotion to God is human upliftment

3. Forget the fast traditions and teach younger generation tradition that make your village proud of its achievement.

    Tukdoji Maharaj (30 April &#;&#; 11 October ) was a spiritual saint from India. He was a disciple of Aadkoji Maharaj. Tukdoji Maharaj was involved in social reforms in the rural regions of Maharashtra, including construction of roads. Tukdoji Maharaj wrote Gramgeeta which means village development. Many of the development programs started by him worked efficiently even after his death.

    Biography

    Saint Tukdoji Maharaj was born in Yawali, Amravati district, Maharashtra. He received spiritual initiation from Samarth Adkoji Maharaj of Warkhed gram. Early in childhood, Saint Tukdoji Maharaj performed rigorous penance and spiritual exercises in self-realisation. He was an orator and a musician who composed more than bhajans (spiritual poems) in Hindi and Marathi, having performed for the spiritual teacher Meher Baba in and He also wrote many articles on Dharma, society, nation and education. He studied the existing religious sects and other schools of thought and discussed religious and secular problems of the devotees.

    Work

    In , Tukdoji Maharaj performed individual acts of civil resistance, called satyagraha, and took part in the mass upsurge of the 'Quit India' movement. He was arrested in and was imprisoned in Nagpur and Raipur Central Jails. When India had become independent, he concentrated on rural reconstruction, establishing the 'All India Shri Gurudev Seva Mandal' and developing programmes for integrated rural development.Rajendra Prasad, who was the first President of India, bestowed the title of 'Rashtrasant' on him.
